Red Army Style Handwoven Straw Display Sandals Traditional Chinese Woven Folk Craft

In Xiaojiayu Village, Qiaotou Township, Yongding District, Zhangjiajie, a hillside settlement is known as Jifupo. In the Tujia language, jifu means “straw sandals,” so the place name can be read as “Straw Sandal Slope”—an enduring mark of the area's sandal-making culture. For generations, weaving straw sandals was familiar work during quieter farming seasons. It was also social: children gathered to see who could weave a pair fastest, turning a practical craft into a lively community pastime. This handwoven display pair carries that local memory forward through straw, braided edges, and visible handwork.
